 Rural Outreach

As our mission states, FMRI prepares broadly trained family physicians to practice in rural Idaho. This relationship with our rural Idaho communities and physicians is synergistic and reflected by our outreach programs. The five pillars of our outreach are to provide education to students, residents and rural providers, service and advocacy for rural communities and foster relationships that will help create and maintain the workforce for rural Idaho.

 Community Apgar Program

A validated tool for improving rural communities' recruitment and retention of physicians.  For more information please click here.

The Community Apgar Questionnaire has been featured again in the June 2009 Edition of the Rural Monitorclick here to read the full article.

The Community Apgar Program was presented at the National Organization of State Offices of Rural Health Annual Meeting in 2009 and also at the National Association of Community Health Centers FOM/IT meeting in 2010. Both the Critical Access Hospital and the Community Health Center version of the Community Apgar Program are being utilized in Idaho and in other participating states to help communities strategize effective workforce recruitment and retention. Please feel free to contact David Schmitz at dave.schmitz@fmridaho.org  for more information.
